Oral: 500 -1000 mg TID
Following IV ampicillin and erythromycin x 48 hOral: 250 mg TID x 5 days (in combination with oral erythromycin)

Reconstitution instructions for 250 mg/5 mL powder for oral suspension:
1. Shake bottle to loosen powder
2. Add 68mL of sterile water to the bottle to make a total volume of 100mL
3. Shake bottle well

Therapy of Streptococcal, Enterococcal infections as well as susceptible gram negative infections.
Commonly used for respiratory tract infections and urinary tract infections.
Used as part of the preterm prelabour rupture of membranes (PPROM) protocol after 48 h of IV ampicillin and erythromycin administration.
Gastrointestinal side effects
Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed), cytopenias
Contraindicated in patients with true penicillin allergies.
Amoxicillin shares a common structural side chain with cephalexin, therefore, there is an increased risk of allergy cross reactivity between these agents.
